ENGLISH AND GERMAN
E: We love to start our weekend with a nice brunch in one of Vancouver’s coffee shops. Weekends are just calling for brunch and we love to try as many different places as possible. But of course, we do have our favorite places in the city, locations that always make us come back, eggs benny that were too good to have them only once. This is a selection of six that won’t appear on Google right away.
D: Was gibt es schöneres als am Wochenende richtig zu brunchen? Wir sind wirklich grosse Brunch-Liebhaber und am Wochenende gönnen wir uns ganz gerne ein üppiges Frühstück ausser Haus. Dabei probieren wir immer wieder neue Lokalitäten aus, aber natürlich haben auch wir unsere Favoriten. Heute möchte ich sechs Restaurants mit euch teilen, die ihr nicht sofort findet, wenn ihr nach Brunchoptionen in Vancouver googlet.
CACAO 70
E: Our all-time favorite is Cacao 70. We have been there so many times and whenever we don’t know where to go, one of us is saying for sure “what about Cacao?”.
Cacao opened a couple of months ago on Denman Street in Downtown Vancouver. Recently they opened another location in North Vancouver, directly at the Longsdale Quay.
Why we love Cacao 70 that much? The list is endless: The chocolate fondue in the beginning, the hangover brunch, the milkshakes, did I say the chocolate?? This place is chocolate heaven and if you love chocolate as much as I do, then you have to go there!! If you order a salty dish, you will get a little chocolate fondue with fruits to start. Isn’t that amazing?? You should also try their milkshakes, they are fantastic. And if you are looking for a food recommendation, I would recommend the hangover breakfast, even if you are not hangover, this is a delicious dish.
One last hint: Don’t go there if you are on a diet! The amount of calories that you are eating there, covers a whole week. 🙂
Second last hint: You can find Cacao 70 also in Montreal!
D: Unser absolutes Lieblingscafé, um brunchen zu gehen, ist das Café Cacao 70. Wann immer wir unentschlossen sind, wohin es denn heute gehen soll, sagt einer von uns bestimmt “Wie wäre es mit Cacao 70?”
Cacao 70 ist relativ neu und hat erst diese Jahr in Vancouver einen Standort eröffnet. Seit kurzem gibt es sogar zwei dieser Cafés, was wohl für die Qualität des Cafés spricht.
Warum lieben wir das Cacao 70 so sehr? Die Liste ist endlos: Die Milchshakes, das Schokoladen-Fondue am Anfang, das Katerfrühstück und habe ich Schokolade schon erwähnt? Dieses Café ist eine absolutes Schoggi-Paradies und wenn ihr Schokolade genau so sehr wie ich liebt, dann müsst ihr da mal vorbei! Wenn ihr ein salziges Menu bestellt, gibt es gratis dazu ein kleines Schokoladen-Fondue mit verschiedenen Früchten. Und die Milchshakes sind wirklich auch sehr zu empfehlen. Und zu guter Letzt auch das Katerfrühstück, das sich sogar lohnt, wenn ihr keinen Kater habt! 🙂
Hier noch ein Gratistipp: Falls ihr auf Diät seid, bitte nicht dort hin gehen, die Kalorienzunahme überschreitet wohl ein Wochenpensum.
Mein allerletzter Gratistipp: Es gibt das Café auch in Montreal, falls das besser für euch gelegen ist.

PAUL’S OMELETTERY
E: I guess we are not the only ones who love Paul’s Omelettery because whenever we go there, the waiting time is quite long. For that reason, you either eat a little something before or you are just really patient (I go for the first one because no one wants to see me hangry). However, the waiting is absolutely worth it – the food at Paul’s Omelettery is delicious. And guess what’s the best? Yes, the omelettes. 🙂 But no worries, if you don’t feel like omelettes, you won’t leave the place hungry. What about a “little” lumberjack breakfast?
One last hint: The café already closes at 3pm, so make sure you will be there on time!
D: Wir sind wohl nicht die Einzigen, die gerne zu Paul’s Omelettery gehen, denn die Warteschlange ist immer relativ lang. Man geht also am Besten früh hin, hat schon in Croissant intus oder ist einfach sehr geduldig. Die Warterei lohnt sich aber, denn das Essen ist wirklich gut. Am Besten sind natürlich – achtung jetzt komt’s – die Omelettes. Aber man findet auch etwas, wenn man keine Lust auf Omelettes hat.
Hier noch ein kleiner Hinweis: Das Café schliesst schon um 15 Uhr, also an alle Langschläfer – raus aus den Federn.

ELBOW ROOM
E: Careful, this place is nothing for weak souls! 🙂 The Elbow Room is at Davie Street in Downtown Vancouver and the owners is a gay couple. One of them is more quiet and works in the background while the other one is out in the restaurant as one of the main attractions of the place. 95% of his jokes are sexual and absolutely hilarious. Would you like to hear an example? Once we were sitting next to a young couple and the guy didn’t finish his plate. So the owner told him to finish his dish because his girlfriend has nothing to grab during sex and he should work on that! 🙂
However, I’m not only recommending this place because of the owner but also because of the food. We have been there several times with different people and we were never disappointed by the food. It is delicious and big enough to fill you for the rest of the day.
Once again, I need to recommend the milkshake that is so big that you can count it as a dish itself.
D: Aufgepasst, dieses Café ist nichts für schwache Nerven. Der Elbow Room liegt an der Schwulenstrasse von Vancouver und wird von einem älteren, schwulen Paar geführt. Einer ist eher der ruhige im Hintergrund und der Andere schwirrt durchs Café und ist die Attraktion des Restaurants. Er hält sich mit Sprüchen nicht zurück und 95% davon sind stark unter der Gürtellinie. Beispiel gefällig: Ein junges Paar sitzt am Tisch neben uns und er hat seinen Teller nicht ganz fertig gegessen. Da kommt der Besitzer und meint “Na Junge, iss mal deinen Teller leer, deine Freundin hat beim Sex ja jetzt schon nichts zum Anfassen.”
Es lohnt sich aber nicht nur wegen der Bedienung hierher zu kommen, sondern auch wegen dem Essen – das Essen ist deftig und füllt den Magen für den Tag. Wir haben schon vieles auf der Karte probiert, waren dort mit einer Unmenge von Freunden und das Essen hat uns nie enttäuscht.
Auch hier empfehle ich den Milchshake, den man eigentlich schon fast als einen Gang einrechnen muss, da er so gross ist und einen Turm Schlagsahne mit sich bringt.

DENNY’S
E: Shame on us, there are so many cute restaurants in Vancouver and we love to go to Denny’s!! A reason to unfollow me right!?! Or are you one of those as well? Anyone out there who goes to Denny’s as well? Our excuse is that we live right next to it and when we are too lazy to cook or move, we go there. It’s solid, good food, you know what you get and as I said it is close. However, it is not the healthiest option and these days I try to stick with their oatmeal which is only half healthy because they serve it without fruits but with brown sugar. But I give my best! 🙂
D: Es ist schon fast ein wenig peinlich zuzugeben, aber wenn wir so richtig faul sind und weder Lust zu kochen noch uns zu bewegen haben, dann gehen wir zu Denny’s. Falls ihr es nicht kennt, dann stellt euch ein typisches, amerikanisches Dining vor, das man so oft in amerikanischen Filmen sieht. Rote Sessel, billige Pflanzen, Kaffee, der gratis aufgefüllt wird und ein sehr durchmischtes Publikum. Trotzdem mag ich Denny’s – das Essen ist gut, nicht spektakulär, aber gut und da wir gleich nebenan wohnen, spielt das natürlich auch eine grosse Rolle. In letzter Zeit versuche ich, ein wenig gesünder zu leben (manchmal) und deshalb bestelle ich mir immer mal wieder das Oatmeal – allerdings ist diese Option so mittelgesund, da es ohne Früchte serviert wird, dafür mit braunem Zucker.

SOPHIE’S COSMIC CAFÉ
E: One of the oldest and most established places in Kitsilano is Sophie’s Cosmic Café. It has been around since 1988 and is a busy place if you decide to go there on a Sunday at 11 (Guess who is always doing that??). What I like about Sophie’s are the variety of options you have – burgers, omelettes, eggs and many healthy dishes. Last time i went for an oatmeal with milk, yoghurt and fruits – very delicious.

D: Eines der ältesten und renommiertesten Cafés des Stadteiles Kitsilano ist das “Sophie’s Cosmic Café”. Das Café gibt es seit 1988 und die Besitzerin steht immer noch selber im Laden. Der einzige Nachteil: Wenn man am Sonntag um 11 Uhr Brunchen will, dann ist man mit diesem Entschluss oft nicht alleine. Man steht also zuerst einmal in der Schlange, bevor man es sich im kleinen Café gemütlich machen kann.
Was ich an Sophie’s Café sehr mag, ist die vielseitige Speisekarte – Omelette, Eier in verschiedenen Variationen, Burger und ganz viel gesundes/veganes/vegetarisches. Ich habe mich letztes Wochenende für ein gesundes Oatmeal mit Früchten und Yoghurt entschieden.

TWISTED FORK
E: To be honest, I can’t call this place an “all-time” favorite because I only have been there once. But this one time was pretty convincing and my boyfriend has been there a couple of times and he really likes it. When I asked him about a brunch place in Vancouver for this post, he mentioned the Twisted Fork first.
First things first – if you like coffee, that’s your place to go. When you order a coffee you will receive a whole french press just for yourself.
When it comes to food, Eduardo is team Eggs Benny, one of the best in Vancouver according to him. I ordered the scrambled eggs, also a good choice. It comes with tomatoes, spinach and hash browns.
D: Um ehrlich zu sein, kann ich dieses Restaurant nicht mein “all-time” Favorit nennen, da ich erst einmal dort war. Eduardo war allerdings schon öfters da und auf meine Frage, welches Restaurant er für Brunch empfehlen würde, schlug er sofort das Twisted Fork vor.
Das Wichtigste zuerst: Falls ihr gerne Kaffee trinkt, dann seid ihr hier am richtigen Ort. Wenn ihr nämlich eine Tasse Kaffee bestellt, kriegt ihr gleich eine ganze Kaffeepresse auf den Tisch gestellt.
Beim Essen schwört Eduardo auf die Eggs Benny, die scheinbar die Besten in Vancouver sind. Ich habe mich trotzdem für etwas anderes entschieden, die Scrambled Eggs. Diese kamen mit Tomaten, Spinat und Rösti.
Falls ihr als Tourist in Vancouver seid, kann ich euch dieses Restaurant besonders empfehlen, da es mitten in Downtown liegt und daher von den meisten Hotels aus gut zu erreichen.
